Breast Augmentation in North Carolina
Coley Cosmetics & Hand Surgery performs breast augmentation for residents throughout North Carolina.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a procedure that involves using either saline or silicone breast implants to increase the size of the breasts. This can be done for cosmetic reasons or as breast reconstruction after a mastectomy or injury. The procedure can also increase the volume in the breasts after weight loss or pregnancy.
How Is a Breast Augmentation Performed?
Before beginning the procedure, general anesthesia will be administered for your comfort. After that, the doctor will make a small incision in an inconspicuous place on your breast: the underside of the breast, along the lower portion of the areola, or in the armpit. Your doctor will discuss the best option with you based on implant size, type, and your body shape. After this, the implant will be placed either under the pectoral muscle or directly behind the breast tissue. Again, the placement depends on the size and type of implant as well as your body shape. Finally, the doctor will close the incision in the breast tissue with layered sutures and then close the skin with sutures and skin adhesive or surgical tape.
